Flight control keeps an aircraft stable and manages its movement. Navigation estimates where it is and where it is going. Perception interprets sensor information. Mission software organises a task. These functions can cooperate, but they are not synonyms and may come from different suppliers.
For inspection or mapping, reaching the intended observation area is different from recognising an object or deciding what to do with it. For military systems, navigation, object recognition, human decisions and weapon guidance must also be distinguished. Public claims about autonomy should say which function is automated and what evidence supports that claim. We describe these distinctions without targeting methods or attack instructions.
