On Sunday 7 September 2025 a drone launched from Yemen struck the arrivals hall at Israel's Ramon Airport near the Red Sea city of Eilat, injuring two people and halting takeoffs and landings for about two hours. The Houthis claimed responsibility. The Israeli military said its systems detected the drone but did not classify it as hostile, so interception and alert systems were not activated.

What we know
Takeoffs and landings were halted for around two hours and the airport later reopened for full operations. Israel's ambulance service said a 63-year-old man was injured by shrapnel and a 52-year-old woman was hurt, with Haaretz reporting she was injured after she fell; others received treatment for panic attacks. Airline Arkia said its aircraft were undamaged.
The Israeli military, the Airports Authority and the national ambulance service all described a drone from Yemen that fell in the arrivals hall area, and the Houthi spokesperson claimed the strike. Israeli Army Radio reported that a preliminary investigation indicated the drone had not been spotted by the air force's detection systems at all, which differs from the military's statement that it was detected but not classified as hostile.
What remains unknown
How the drone evaded classification as a threat, the drone type, and whether other drones in the Houthi operation reached southern Israel; the military said it had intercepted three drones launched from Yemen and did not elaborate on the status of the third.
Operator attribution: Claimed by a party (not independently verified). The Houthi military spokesperson claimed that a drone directly hit the airport and said airports inside occupied Palestine would be continuously targeted. Israel's military said the drone was launched from Yemen. [1][2]
